1. Commitment to Children's Privacy (COPPA and GDPR-K)

Wee Stories ("we", "us", "our") is designed specifically for young children aged 3 to 7. We adhere strictly to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation for Children (GDPR-K), and Apple App Store Review Guidelines.

  • No Voice Recordings Retained: Speech interactions are processed in real time solely to interpret your child's story choices. We never record, sell, transmit, or retain raw child audio files.
  • No Children's PII: We never ask for, collect, or store a child's full legal name, physical address, email, or telephone number.
  • Anonymous Identity by Default: Children interact with Wee Stories through an anonymous session identifier created on launch.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum necessary information required to create personal story universes:

A. Information Provided by Parents

  • First Name or Nickname: An optional first name or nickname (e.g. "Jack") used by narrators and characters inside the story dialogue.
  • Age Group Preference: Selected by parents (e.g. "Ages 3 to 4" or "Ages 5 to 7") to ensure age-appropriate vocabulary and themes.
  • Family Photos (Optional): Photos of your child, family members, or pets uploaded by parents solely to illustrate characters in your private storybooks.

B. Account & Entitlement Data

  • Parent Authentication (Optional): If you choose to create a cloud backup via Sign in with Apple or Google SSO, we store your account email and user ID to synchronize story worlds across your family's devices.
  • Subscription Status: Managed securely via Apple App Store in-app purchases and RevenueCat. We store active subscription tier identifiers.

C. Story Universes & Living Canon

  • Narrative Memory: Character names, favorite imaginary locations, and past adventures are securely saved in Cloud Firestore so story worlds remember your child's choices over time.

3. Photo Upload & AI Processing Safeguards

We understand the profound trust parents place in us when uploading a photo of their child. We treat this data with the highest security standards:

  • Private Use Only: Photos uploaded to Wee Stories are used exclusively to generate stylized storybook illustrations for your private family account.
  • No Public AI Training: Your child's images and prompts are never used to train public artificial intelligence models.
  • Encrypted Storage: Images are stored in private, access-controlled cloud storage secured by Google Cloud security protocols.
  • Instant Deletion: Parents can delete any uploaded photo or character profile at any time directly within the app.

4. How We Use Information

We use collected data solely to:

  1. Generate personalized, voice-led interactive storybooks.
  2. Maintain living world continuity and character relationships across visits.
  3. Validate subscription entitlements and restore purchases.
  4. Monitor technical stability and diagnose crashes via Firebase Crashlytics.

We do not sell, rent, monetize, or broker personal information. We do not conduct behavioral tracking, cross-site advertising, or profiling.

5. Third-Party Infrastructure Partners

We partner with trusted cloud infrastructure providers bound by strict confidentiality and data protection agreements:

  • Google Firebase: User authentication, encrypted database storage (Firestore), and crash diagnostics.
  • Apple App Store: In-app purchase processing and secure identity tokens (Sign in with Apple).
  • RevenueCat: In-app subscription validation and receipt verification.
  • OpenAI: Generative text narration and text-to-speech rendering. Prompts contain no PII; inputs are processed per OpenAI API privacy terms (no model training on API data).

6. Parent Controls & Full Data Deletion Rights

Parents hold complete control over their family's data at all times:

  • Sign Out Anytime: Parents may disconnect authenticated accounts at any time from the Profile Screen.
  • In-App Deletion: You can permanently delete any character, photo, or story universe directly in the app.
  • Complete Account Purge: You may request the immediate deletion of your entire account, story history, and cloud data by emailing us at daniel@getweestories.com. We will fulfill your request promptly.
